Graz – European Cultural Capital 2003
Culture and delight in the \"Green Heart\" of Austria

Day 1 Arrival at Graz
Arrival in Vienna and transfer south to the province of Styria, the \"green heart\" of Austria. A walking tour will let you discover the old town of Graz, which is one of the best preserved in Europe and was awarded World Cultural Heritage by the UNESCO. Narrow streets and romantic courtyards – Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque style – all can be found. Enjoy the highlights of the European Cultural Capital.
Dinner and overnight stay at a centrally located hotel.

Day 2 \"Castle Eggenberg\"
In the morning we will visit Eggenberg Castle. 365 rooms (corresponding with the course of the year), 4 towers (symbolizing the four seasons) and the “planetarium\" show us the astronomic interests of the Eggenberg family. A wonderful park completes this splendid castle.
Dinner and overnight stay in Graz.

Day 3 \"The Horses from Myth – discover the Magic of the Lippizaner horses\"
After breakfast we drive to the western part of Styria. The famous Lippizaner horses, one of our famous landmarks, nowadays come from Piber. We will visit the stud farm with its beautiful horses and will get an insight into their education and training.
The Styrian national exhibition 2003 in the castle of Piber gives a good survey of the phenomenon and relationship \"horse-mankind\" from the cultural point of view, and at the same time presents the famous \"white horses\" in their most vivid and elegant form.
Lunch will be served in a typical rustic restaurant.
In the afternoon we will continue to Bärnbach where the “Hundertwasserkirche”, designed and constructed by the modern Austrian painter and architect Hundertwasser, created a sensation.
Overnight stay in Graz.

Day 4 \"The Styrian Toscana – region of the Schilcher wine\"
After breakfast we will travel to southwest Styria, a highly individual landscape, the heart of \"Schilcherland\": you will be witness to a well-guarded landscape with its typical vineyards and wooden houses.
This region has been in touch with the Schilcher wine for many centuries, a wine typical for its iridescent color. We will taste this renowned wine in a romantic tavern situated in one of the small villages with their typical west-styrian farmhouses.
Overnight stay in Graz.

Day 5 \"Styrian Castles\"
In the morning we will visit the hugest fortress of the Christian world: the Riegersburg. The present phenotype was given to the Riegersburg during the 17th century. Because of its 3 km walls, its 11 bastions and its 6 gates this castle can be considered as one of the biggest intact fortresses of middle Europe. Nowadays the huge spatiality’s house is a museum for weapons and witchcraft.
Following a romantic highway we will find the Kornberg Castle, a renaissance castle founded in the 17th century with a marvelous chapel: the St. Andrew Chapel.
Return to Graz in the afternoon.
Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.
