Spectacular fireworks...

September 2005

Destination China arranged this spectacular fireworks display on Shanghai’s Huangpu River for the delegates attending the meeting of the International Federation of Pharmaceutical Wholesalers. Traffic on one of the world’s busiest rivers was held up for 30 minutes during the display.

The evening started with a cocktail reception from the Puxi side of the river, on cruisers used by city officials to entertain important visitors. This is the riverside we feature in this picture, highlighting the Bund – the single most evocative symbol of the “Paris of the East – where fortunes were made and lost.

A tented dinner was provided on the opposite Pudong waterfront, with lively entertainment and dancing. Fifteen years ago Pudong constituted an area of boggy farmland providing produce to Shanghai’s markets. Now Pudong has become a Special Economic Zone, which is rapidly developing into one of Asia’s major financial centers. It was from here that the guests saw this unforgettable fireworks display.

We should be glad to provide you with other creative ideas for your next meeting in Shanghai or Beijing.
