Dubrovnik Travel DMC is expanding...

September 2011

After thirteen years of successful business and numerous effectively executed projects, Dubrovnik Travel DMC is expanding. A new office will be opened in Croatia’s capital city of Zagreb.

To date Dubrovnik Travel DMC (DT) has been operating from coastal offices in Dubrovnik and Split and with the new additionof abranch office in Zagreb, DT will be able to provide complete support for all its partners and clients throughout Croatia, including the Istria region.

This second branch office was an inevitable part ofDT’s development as Zagreb is the centre of Croatia’s business, academic, cultural, artistic and sporting life.

The capital city of the Republic of Croatia, Zagreb is an old Central European city. For centuries it has been a melting pot of culture and science, and now of commerce and industry as well. It lies at the intersection of important routes between the Adriatic coast and Central Europe in the northwestern part of Croatia.

Zagreb offers visitors the Baroque atmosphere of the UpperTown, picturesque open-air markets, diverse shopping facilities, an abundant selection of crafts and a choice vernacular cuisine. Zagreb is a city of green parks and walks, with many places to visit in the beautiful surroundings. In spite of the rapid development of the economy and transportation, it has retained its charm and a relaxed feeling that makes it a genuinely human city. The surroundings of Zagreb make this destination even more attractive.

Travelling from Zagreb, visitors can explore the rolling hills of the Hrvatsko Zagorje region, which is dotted with old fortifications, medieval churches, archaeological sites and vineyards. Especially interesting are the castles ofTrakošćan and Veliki Tabor and the late Baroque summer palaces Bežanec, Maruševac and Miljana. There is also a prehistoric archaeological park, many wine roads, several thermal spas and exquisite restaurants with traditional local cuisine.

Another attraction to see whiletravelling from Zagreb to the AdriaticCoastis the Plitvice Lakes National Park which holds a grand collection of waterfalls and a gallery of lakes and forests. This oldest CroatianNational Park, also protected by UNESCO, is top tourist destination in Croatia. It is made up of a series of 16 bigger and a few smaller lakes, gradually lined, separated by travertine barriers and surrounded by pristine forests.

Continuing from Zagreb to Adriatic, one cannot avoid the Istria region, which is indeed a feast for the eyes. Its streams flow to the sea through deep valleys and gullies which bring to mind the ancient local myths about giants. Rolling hills overlook the fields and valleys with little towns perched on the peaks, recalling some old paintings. The view is splendid: white-topped mountains, lush wheat fields, valleys, vineyards and olive groves on hillsides, and, finally the sea. Everything is warm–hearted and friendly here: nature, the quant towns and the people.

Whether you are travelling by air, road or train, visitors will find Zagreb very accessible. There are daily regular flights from a majority of European cities to Pleso, the airport of Zagreb, which is located 17 km from the centre of the city (20-25 minutes by bus). The bus station and the main railway station are situated just 10 minutes from the city centre. All in all, this charming historic, modern metropolis is sure to please all visitors with its architecture multitude of beautiful sights.
