First United
This is not a fairy tale...

December 2004

This is not a fairy tale…

2005 will be a year to be remembered by First United for many reasons. Not in the least for the events for which we will be providing management services (see Euromic On-The-Move #29). Another, important event that will make 2005 a memorable year, not only for First United but for Denmark as a whole, will be the bicentenary celebrations that will mark the 200th anniversary of Hans Christian Andersen\'s birth.

Probably the most famous Dane of all time, Hans Christian Andersen\'s fairytales have been translated in as many languages (some say more) as the Holy Bible. His birthday will be celebrated with special events, theatre performances and shows as well as cultural and academic events throughout the year all over Denmark. For up to date information on all of the Hans Christian Andersen celebrations, you can visit where, true to his spirit, there are links to sites in 12 different languages, from Danish to mandarin Chinese.

As a small contribution to mark the bicentenary with a relevant product for our clients, First United and The Royal Danish Shooting Club have developed a gala theme dinner, where Hans Christian Andersen is the central, cultural feature.

The home of the Royal Shooting Club (The Royal Copenhagen Shooting Society and Danish Brotherhood, to give the club its full name) is the Sølyst Estate. This unique manor house is set in a stunning location in its own park overlooking the Øresund, just north of Copenhagen. The mansion was built in 1725 by a Dutch merchant as a magnificent summer residence and, from 1776, it was owned by Count Schimmelman, who entertained the greatest personalities of the time in the fields of art, literature and science. The style, ambience and decor are unique and the mansion will be opened for the exclusive enjoyment of you and your guests.

The Royal Shooting Club\'s chef de cuisine will create menus, based on the author\'s popular tales, which will be a gastronomic feast – \"The Little Mermaid\" seafood festival and \"The Snow Queen\" frozen rhubarb soup are two of the highlights – set against the elegant, musical background of a classical duo. The cultural highlight of the evening will be actor/singer Christian Steffensen\'s 30-minute show of poems, stories and songs, inspired by Hans Christian Andersen, to the accompaniment of his pianist.

Depending on the time of the year, the client profile and the purpose of the dinner, the event can be expanded including after dinner dancing, other cultural and/or entertainment features – the Copenhagen University Choir, the Hans Christian Andersen Parade or perhaps two opera singers – just as there are a variety of possibilities for varying the transportation to and from the venue, organizing outdoor features in the park and having special welcome ceremonies.

The evening as described, to include transportation to and from the venue by deluxe motor coaches, welcome drink upon arrival, 3 course dinner with wine service throughout, after dinner coffee with a glass of cognac or liquor, table decorations, live dinner music and 30 minute recital and song performance by Christian Steffensen would cost DKK. 1.995,00 (€269, 00) per person with a minimum of 50 guests. A maximum of 150 persons would be able to enjoy an evening with Hans Christian Andersen at The Royal Shooting Club, in which case the cost would be DKK.1.675, - (€226,00) per person. All prices are net, non-commissionable.
