Nature and Culture - Bergen and Copenhagen

April 2002

This six nights split destination program offers an insight in Scandinavian culture and nature – the breathtaking grandeur of the Norwegian fjords and the small town charm of Bergen - topped by the splendour of Copenhagen, Denmark’s capital.

Day 1:

Meet & greet at Bergen Airport and transfer to hotels.

Afternoon walking tour of the Hansa area of Bergen (2-3 hours):
The «Bryggevandring» Tour which takes you through the picturesque old parts of Bergen, including a stop at the famous Fish Market, a \"backstage\" viewing of the old buildings at Bryggen and a stroll through the wharf area. Visit of the Hanseatic Museum and the beautiful Maria Church, being the oldest building in Bergen.

Evening round trip with Welcome Dinner at Gamle Bergen.
Bergen is known for its old wooden houses, which can be seen in the Old Bergen Museum (open air museum). The old houses in the museum are opened for the Welcome Dinner with crafts people and guides in costumes explaining the work and life of the people of Bergen in older times.

Day 2:

Today\'s options include:

Option1: Stave Church & Grieg Tour (3 hours):
The group will head out of the town center and go south to the Fana district to visit the Fantoft Stave Church, past the royal residence Gamehaugen before arriving at the Troldhaugen museum, which used to be the late composer Edvard Grieg’s summer residence.

Option2: Bergen Archipelago Fjord Cruise (7 hours):
Departure from Bergen by high-speed catamaran boat for a cruise through the narrow fjords and islands south of Bergen, crossing the large Bjørnafjord and heading into the branch fjord Samnangerfjord with a stop at the small settlement of Bogavik. Visit of a 150-year-old Barrel Factory. Docking at the Solstrand Hotel, one of the most beautiful resort hotels in Norway, for a buffet lunch of local delicatessen with both cold and warm dishes.

Option3: Rafting:
Departure from Bergen for a drive north west and inland through fertile green valleys and along deep narrow fjords to the famous ski resort of Voss, where local rafting experts accompany you through a 4 hours ride on the Voss river, one of the most powerful rivers in Norway with high water flow. Buffet lunch will be served at the magnificent wooden Swiss dragon style hotel of Fleisher’s Hotel. After lunch, the group returns to Bergen by train, offering a splendid view on the scenery.

Dine around evening with transfers by coach or cabs to a selection of fine restaurants.

Day 3:

This day\'s activity is the \"Norway in a Nutshell\" Tour, featuring some of the most beautiful and famous fjords in Norway.

Island Dinner:

Evening transfer from the hotel to the Bergen pier for departure by catamaran to a small island out in the fjord - a 25 minutes transfer by sea - for a unique Fisherman Buffet dinner.

Day 4:

Flight to Copenhagen for a Copenhagen Tour (duration 3 hours) providing the ideal start to your stay, visiting the city\'s major sights and giving you an idea of the layout of Copenhagen. To add extra excitement to your city tour, we offer you the possibility of a special diving arrangement: when your guests disembark from the bus at the Little Mermaid and are all standing on the harbour front, a number of divers emerge from the water with bottles of champagne.

Lunch at Langelinie Pavillionen.

Evening dinner at the beautiful Restaurant Nimb, the largest restaurant in Tivoli Gardens, the world-famous amusement park situated right in the heart of Copenhagen.

Day 5:

Castle Tour of North Sealand (7 hours):
A beautiful trip combining visits to historic places with a drive through the lovely countryside, along the \"Danish Riviera\" - the coastal road with its clear view over to Sweden.

Lunch en route at Mikkelgaard, built around 1915 as a summerhouse for a wealthy Copenhagen family.

Evening dinner at the 700 years old St. Gertrud’s Cloister, lit up exclusively by up to 1500 candle lights. On arrival, champagne can be served to your guests from bottles opened by the restaurant staff with the use of sabres. The food is served on pewter cover plates and is prepared on a huge fire place. St. Gertrud’s is highly reputed and probably the most original place in Copenhagen.

Day 6:

This day features a relaxing morning sailing and time for shopping in the afternoon. Schooners (4 hours and up):
An unrivalled opportunity to experience a slice of life as it was in the romantic days of sailing, with a cruise along the Danish Riviera between Denmark and Sweden and back to Copenhagen three to four hours later. Lunch with wine or beer and coffee can be served on board.
One schooner holds around 24-70 passengers — depending on availability, we can rent several ships.

Evening Gala dinner in an exclusive venue: the Sølyst Estate, built in 1725 by a Dutch shopkeeper as a magnificent summer residence. The estate is not a restaurant but a home solely opened for your group.
Various activities can be arranged on the estate, such as a shooting competition during cocktails, a welcome by either Yeomen of the Guard or the Royal Naval Marching Band (which can also play in the park or perform a mini tattoo) or even a fireworks display in the park after dinner, with the possibility to integrate company flags and/or a logo.

Day 7:

Departure transfer from the hotel to the airport for the departure flights.
