Kronborg Castle – A unique Opportunity!

October 2006

Kronborg Castle

The opportunity to enjoy dinner at a unique venue with Hamlet, History and UNESCO World Heritage.

Kronborg Castle is probably the most famous building in Denmark. It was originally a small fortress, built in 1420 to control shipping in the strait between Denmark and Sweden. In 1574-85, King Frederik II had the ancient castle extended and rebuilt into a splendid Renaissance castle, and the fame of the castle spread when William Shakespeare used it as the setting for the dramatic masterpiece, \'Hamlet’.

The castle is the property of the state and, hitherto, the only functions to be held there have been State and/or Royal functions. Due to a recent change in government statutes, the magnificent Knights\' Hall or Dance Hall at Kronborg Castle is now available for gala banquets.

The dramatic setting, the dominating character and the history that emanates from the walls of the castle are all eminently suitable, not only for epic drama but as the setting for an absolutely unique banquet.

Of the many rooms at the castle which you can see in connection with a gala function, the most notable are the King’s and Queen’s apartments with splendid marble fireplaces, doorways and ceiling paintings, the Small Hall with seven royal tapestries from ca. 1582.  The Knights\' Hall, which would be used for the gala banquet, is the largest room in Northern Europe, measuring 62 by 11 meters (more than 200 x 35 ft) and makes a really imposing setting for a gala in truly historic surroundings.
