First United hosted EUROMIC’s Annual General Meeting...

February 2008

Each January, EUROMIC Members and World Affiliates fly from around the globe to attend its Annual General Meeting (AGM).  In between meetings, seminars and discussions of official Association business, attendees are happy to have the opportunity to socialize with colleagues.
The AGM is hosted each year by a EUROMIC member in their home city, so the gathering also serves the purpose of a professional site-inspection of the destination, including luxury accommodations and dining, as part of the educational component of the meeting.

This year, we were hosted by our Danish Member, First United, in the Nordic city of Copenhagen, one of Northern Europe’s premier destinations for meetings and incentives.

Participants bedded at the Marriott Copenhagen Hotel, which boasts, in addition to its 400-plus rooms and luxury suites, nearly 900 square meters of meeting space.  It is conveniently situated near the airport and train station, and within an easy walk of several of Copenhagen’s top attractions: the Tivoli Gardens, the “Stroeget” – Europe’s longest pedestrian street – and the magnificent Christiansborg Palace.  The hotel’s location, its many amenities (which include a health spa and fine dining at the Terraneo Mediterranean restaurant), and its fully equipped event space made the Marriott an ideal location for a meeting, even for the experienced meeting and event professionals such as those participants.

Delegates were swept off their feet by the stunningly modern Alberto K restaurant, which opened in 2001 and is named after the first General Manager of the Radisson SAS Royal Hotel in which it is located.  The fine dining at the Alberto K is superb, but the real treat is the décor.  Everything from the chairs down to the silverware is manufactured from designs by Arne Jacobsen, whose unique pieces were chosen to adorn the hotel upon its opening in 1960.  The Alberto K, for these reasons, provides a uniquely authentic experience in Danish design and, from the 20th floor, the best view in town.

The availability of at-leisure social activities is a must for any meeting and our AGM was lucky enough to be within a short distance of the Hotel 27, with the curious automated Wine Bar in the lobby and trendy Absolut Icebar.

There are few activities in all of Europe that could match our dinner at Sølyst in terms of Old World Charm.  The home of the Royal Copenhagen Shooting Society and Danish Brotherhood, founded in 1344, the Solyst provides the ambience of a Nordic mansion, where guests are now pampered in private dining rooms.  While waiting, EUROMIC’s members engaged in some healthy competition by trumping one another in the Sølyst’s rifer activities.

The last event of AGM 2008 was the farewell lunch at the Michelin rated Noma, where Scandinavian clients were invited to join members for a sampling of gourmet Nordic dishes with a clean and fashionable presentation.  The cozy, contemporary dining establishment is the perfect place to enjoy this new, greener take on and ages-old traditional cuisine.  Noma’s aim is to prepare their dishes entirely from ingredients that are fresh, organic and local, and the delivery is impeccable.  Balanced out with an extensive selection of fine wines, this was not a meal to disappoint.
