Fairmont Nile City, a New Luxurious Hotel in Cairo

The Fairmont Nile City Cairo will be one of the newest and most luxurious hotels in Cairo when it opens in May 2009. The five-star hotel will be opened as part of the Nile City office and retail development, which has been underway since 2001. The hotel is superbly located for the would-be business traveler and tourist, with the hotel overlooking the river Nile and being just 30 minutes away from the Sphinx and great Pyramids of Giza.
The hotel will occupy the newly constructed third tower of the Nile City complex. Fairmont Hotels and Resorts (FHR) have entered into a joint venture with the Nile City Investments Company (NCIC) to outfit and manage the 552 room luxury hotel. FHR and the Kingdom Hotel Investment Group (KHI) have each invested approximately $10million for an interest of 15% each in the property, with the hotel development costing an estimated US$80million to construct.
FHR’s top executives see Cairo as one of the most important commercial tourism centers in the region, and we are excited about expanding their portfolio including luxury properties in Egypt.

UNESCO Backs Plan to Build Underwater Museum in Alexandria

The United Nations Cultural Agency recently announced it will help Egypt build an innovative Underwater Museum in the Bay of Alexandria, on the site of archaeological remains that are believed to be thousands of years old.  Located by Cleopatra’s Palace and the mythical 3rd Century B.C. Alexandria Lighthouse, also known as Pharos, the idea for this museum comes amidst growing recognition of the importance of underwater cultural heritage.
The first-of-its kind museum will be partly above water and partly submerged, allowing visitors to see archaeological artifacts on the seabed, according to a press release issued by the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
The museum represents a major advance in underwater cultural heritage exhibitions and UNESCO has established an International Scientific Advisory Committee to help with the construction of the project, which is expected to begin later this year.

Team Building in Sharm El sheikh, Mini Olympics

In a daylong event Sharm El Sheikh’s, Emeco Travel recently organized a Mini Olympics for a French incentive group in Taraseena Beach. Around one hundred and fifty participants were split in four competing teams. The teams were pitted against each other to compete in a range of fun and exhilarating sporting activities. Alongside the more traditional events like swimming, volleyball and canoeing were some more extreme sports such as quad biking and dinghy boat races.
The event ended around 5pm when contestants sat down to enjoy a massive buffet lunch of traditional Egyptian foods. The day of fun was enjoyed by all and gave contestants the opportunity to meet and engage with travelers from across the globe. Although at times events got slightly heated as people’s competitive streaks showed through, the day was sheer fun for all participants who ended up happy and satisfied. This team building activity was one of three major events held for the group in Sharm El Sheikh.
