World?s MICE Travel Experts Meet...

May 2009

The renowned Port Ghalib resort on the red sea, recently hosted the WTS (World Travel Summit) to discuss the means by which the tourism industry can overcome the consequences of the global economic crisis.

The summit held under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism and organized by Emeco Travel with the support of Intercontinental Hotels and Port Ghalib owning company. There were about 50 attendees of tourism business and media specialized in MICE from 11 countries in Europe, Africa, and North & South America.

Prior to the official opening of the summit, the attendees were invited for a felucca breakfast organized by Emeco Travel, where they spent around 2 hours exploring the Nile whilst having their breakfast. They headed afterwards to the Giza Pyramids area where they enjoyed an exclusive visit to the inside of the Sphinx and the great pyramids.

During the meetings with representatives of the different countries, the summit\'s participants explained their visions on the current situation, made suggestions and provided tips to their Egyptian colleagues.
Speeches went mostly around the development of MICE & Luxury Travel to Egypt “Certainly, we are experiencing a difficult time -concludes Mr. Elhamy El Zayat, Chairman & CEO of Emeco Travel - The future promises us change, and such international meetings to exchange views of all participants are extremely important”.

After the summit, participants were invited to join a Nile cruise on MS TuYa the luxury five star vessel on the Nile or on the Agatha Christie one of the four newly launched dahabiyas (Boutique sailing boats of Emeco Floating Hotels). A new luxury way to cruise the Nile in a romantic and exclusive atmosphere with only 8 deluxe cabins on board. Before their final departure the delegates were welcomed at a walking lunch cocktail and enjoyed a special visit and to the new Cairo Airport Terminal 3.

It is worth mentioning that the new terminal is designed for both international and domestic traffic and has a capacity of 11 million passengers annually. It consists of a five-level main building and two concourses, which provide a total gross floor area of more than 165,000 square meters. A bridge between Terminal 2 and Terminal 3 will ensure easy access and short transfer times in between the terminals. Airside, Terminal 3 will provide 54 aircraft stands, 23 of which will be contact gates directly linked to the terminal building. Terminal 3 is equipped with the latest state-of-the-art technology.
