Egypt is back in business!

March 2011

Egypt is back in the tourist business

Egypt is edging closer to normality and many famous tourist attractions have reopened for the first time since the end of the political turmoil. All governmental offices, business entities, banks and airports are functioning normally in addition to all Pharaonic, Coptic, Islamic and modern sites.
A promotional campaign aimed at bringing tourists back started last week. During a celebratory march on Friday, Feb 18th, signs in many languages read “Welcome back to the free Egypt.”

Forecasts predict that business from March onwards will remain unaffected and we are confident that this will remain the case. According to reports, small groups of tourists, including some Egyptians, visited the Giza plateau, Saqqara and Luxor.

Tourism experts have called for making Cairo’s Tahrir Square a tourist destination as a memorial to the 18-day protests staged there which resulted in the toppling of former President Hosni Mubarak’s regime.

“Squares worldwide, especially in European countries, have become tourist destinations due to their significance in history. Tahrir Square has become a symbol of a popular revolution,” said Mr. Hisham Zaazou, assistant to the tourism minister.

Egypt has much to offer in terms of unique tourism attractions. Popular Red Sea destinations, such as Sharm El Sheikh and Hurghada, remain unaffected. We are confident that those travellers booked with us to visit these resorts will have an enjoyable stay with us.

The Egyptian revolution was a revolution of diversity, a proliferation of voices — of youth, women and workers, as well as the religious — all of whom struggled for a better future. We showed to the world that Egyptians are a great people, able to solve the most difficult situations peacefully.

The Foreign Ministries of many Europeans countries, including the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Germany, the UK, Italy, Sweden, Denmark, Norway have lifted their advisories against travel to tourist resorts on Egypt’s Red Sea coast and Belgium also lifted its advisory against travel to Luxor & Aswan.

We welcome you to the New Egypt!
