Flying Taxis

This summer, Dubai will launch passenger-carrying taxi drones that fly themselves at 1,000 feet, serving as self-flying taxis.
Test flights have already taken place and the drone can carry one passenger weighing up to 220 pounds (15 stone 10 lbs.) and has a 30-minute flight time at a height of 1,000 feet. The passenger uses a touch screen to select a destination. There are no other controls inside the craft. It is ?auto-piloted? by a command center. It can power its eight propellers using an electric motor for up to 30 minutes. Recharge time takes only two hours.
The drone?s takeoff, flight, and landing are all monitored by ground control. The drone was specially designed to stand up to Dubai?s punishing summer days and cold nights.
Ehang designed the 184 with a lot of safety systems. If even the slightest thing goes wrong mechanically with the drone, it automatically lands at the nearest safe destination.
The drone also comes equipped with secure computer networks to stop it being hacked.
