Come to France for...

June 2010

Paris awoke today to the announcement that the city has been selected to host the European Soccer Championship in 2016!

Some of those who aren’t soccer fans might ask, “So what?” But here in Paris we have had the pleasure of welcoming other major soccer and sports events and find it exciting!

First, it will bring a lot of travellers to our country from all over the world – Good.
Second, there will be more spending on new building projects, which is positive for our economy – Good.
Third, it will provide an excellent opportunity to start using some brand new hotels that are currently being built in Paris (the Mandarin Oriental, the ShangriLa, the Raffles Royal Monceau, and the W, with others still to come) – Good
And, finally, major sporting events inevitably endow Paris with the convivial, international ambiance which suits the City of Lights so well.
It can’t be bad!

The strengthening of the US Dollar against the Euro seems to be another very positive sign for our industry in Europe and our recent experience meeting with clients during the Imex tradeshow in Frankfurt confirms this suspicion. France is already looking very busy during 2011 and 2012! – Very Good!

If you think your travellers have been to Paris so many times that it is a difficult sell, why not try some of the different venues within easy reach of the French Capital?

For example, consider Chantilly. Its name is synonymous with lace and cream, but there is so much more. Small chateaux and ancient Abbeys have been converted into conference centres where peace and quiet is ideal for thought but it’s easy to animate the stay with Golf, Team Building activities, and visits to excellent neighbourhood restaurants. There is also the amazing Chateau; the stables, which house the living horse museum; and the course where two of France’s thoroughbred classic races are run. Small groups can even visit one of the neighbouring training stables. Chantilly is less than half an hour from CDG airport and within one hour of Paris if you want to arrange a night on the town.
In 1968 during his official visit to Chantilly, Richard Nixon, said:” Why have I been taken to Versailles seven times and never here?”

Or what about Champagne? It is a 45 minute ride by high-speed train to visit Reims, the city where every King of France was crowned. You can also visit the numerous cellars where the eponymous beverage, Champagne, has been produced and bottled ever since the late 17th century when that famous monk, Dom Perignon, discovered the method of double fermentation.

Whichever destination in France that you choose, the 2010 team at Holt Paris Welcome Service is ready to welcome both your requests and your guests!

Bearers of this article will be welcomed with a glass of Champagne on arrival in Paris!

See you soon
