Hafengeburtstag Hamburg
(Hamburg Port Anniversary)

The Hafengeburtstag in Hamburg is one of the biggest events in Germany, setting up a new record for attendance in 2007. It took place from May 10th – 13th and some 1.5 million visitors from Germany and abroad came to the port of Hamburg to witness this greatest port festival in the world. They enjoyed brilliant sunshine and summer temperatures for this festive event, held in the whole area from the Speicherstadt to the Fish Auction Hall, and at the Oevelgönne Museum Harbor. They were treated to a unique program on water, on land and in the air. The Hafengeburtstag 2008 will take place may 9th – 12th, 2008.

Kieler Woche
(Kiel Week Regatta)

Welcome to Kieler Woche” we said from June 16th - 24th. Kieler Woche is the greatest sailing event in the world and at the same time the largest summer festival in northern Europe. A nine-day program packed with over one thousand events to entertain 3.5 million guests from all over the globe. Kiel Week, founded in 1882, has two faces: famous in the yachting world for top-flight sailing competitions (long served as the unofficial world championships), the week also offers the public a huge summer festival, staged throughout the inner city.

Goings-on at the city-centre summer festival are less competitive, but no less exciting. Open-air concerts at the city hall square offer classical and popular music as well as international folklore groups and ballet, while the city\'s art galleries offer a number of temporary exhibitions. Innumerable beer and gourmet stands cater to visitors\' hunger and thirst. During the Holstenbummel, the entire city centre became one big party zone. The many music stages of Germany’s longest open-air festival have created a very special atmosphere. Last but certainly not least, the 1000+ events are capped by one of Europe\'s grandest fireworks shows, which close the festivities on the final night.
Spectators also enjoyed a Windjammer parade on the second Saturday, with almost 100 tall ships taking part.

Sports, culture, science, politics, the media and a multinational crowd - the Kieler Woche is a tremendous get-together with lots of fun and an absolutely fantastic atmosphere - all just one hour\'s journey from Hamburg.

Documenta12 in Kassel

The documenta is widely regarded as the most important exhibition of contemporary art, drawing attention from all over the world. It was initiated in 1955 by the artist and art educator, Arnold Bode, in Kassel. Nobody would have thought at that time that the exhibition, often called the Hundred Day Museum, would become an unparalleled success. Under continually changing directorship, and in the equally leisurely and inexorable rhythm of five years, documenta has advanced to become an authoritative worldwide seismograph of contemporary art. At documenta it becomes manifest whether art is succeeding in grasping the world in images and whether these images have validity for its public. The number of visitors has continually risen and more than 650.000 visitors came to documenta11.

The artistic director of documenta12 is Roger M. Buergel, an internationally active exhibition organizer and curator who was born in Berlin in 1962. Together with the art historian, Ruth Noack, as curator, he shows art from the most various regions of the world and in all conceivable media. The works should not be shown simply unrelated to each other in a line, but be put into relationship with each other. The documenta12 takes place from June 16th till September 23rd, 2007
