Sziget festival: new features

Hungary\'s largest festival, Sziget, to be held between 12-17 August on Budapest\'s Hajógyári (Shipyard) Island, will involve many new features. Some stages will be united and new venues will be introduced. On the 1st day Hungarian Tankcsapda will give a huge 20th anniversary gig, while the second day will be organized with the help of the English Rock against Racism organization. Performers taking part in the tolerance concert have yet to be announced.
The festival is planning a larger international campaign, focusing on good value for money and the multicultural offer. And as flights for the festival are already fully booked, the organizers are launching special festival-trains from the Netherlands. Similar transport may also arrive from Germany and France. To improve camping facilities, a VIP-campsite will be set up with upgraded services at a surcharge, but traditional open-air camping places will still be available free of charge.
Some headliners are already known, such as Prodigy, Offspring, Snow Patrol and Toten Hosen; more artists will be announced in May.

MotoGP delayed by half year

The planned Hungarian GP (originally scheduled for 20 September) will not be held at Balatonring after the race was postponed to spring 2010.
Mr. Tamás Suchmann, governmental commissioner responsible for the race, announced last week that the autumn race became unlikely since the Spanish investor had not filed a definitive proposal for the bank loan. According to a statement released by Vicente Cotino Escriva, president of the SEDESA group, investor in the Balatonring, due to the financial crisis the administration of the loan on the 200 million euro investment will take more time than expected, but negotiations have already started with banks. So far Sedesa and Share Capital have invested 6 million euros in the circuit and 50% of the construction costs, 45 million euros, are already at the companies’ disposal.
