Atlantik Tours, DMC
A promising destination in line with market Trends!

October 2004

Icelandic restaurants such as the Seafood Cellar and Siggi Hall have been on the receiving end of brilliant reviews from critics and magazines such as Condé Nast, rating them amongst the “best new restaurants in the world”.

Icelandic hotels such as Hotel Budir on the Snaefellsnes peninsula and Hotel 101 have received favourable ratings by international magazines. And, last but by no means least, The Blue Lagoon, located en-route from the International airport at Keflavik, has been voted as one of 40 best Spa locations in the world and received positive reviews from

However, it is the stark beauty of the Icelandic nature that remains the main reason for most guests wishing to visit this island in the N-Atlantic. Thingvellir National park is just one example having just recently been added to the UNESCO World Heritage List of unique places to visit in our world. With its clean air, and limited pollution, this spectacluar and politcally stable country is now the place to host your next incentive or meeting!

The Tourism industry of Iceland is responding to the growing demands placed upon it. The hotels in Reykjavik and many other locations are expanding or remodelling to keep up. It is less than two years since the Nordica Hotel in Iceland opened its doors after an extensive remodelling of the old Hotel Esja. The Nordica is continuing with its improvements prearations are under way for a remodelling of its standard rooms in time for next summer’s season. The Radisson SAS Hotel Saga is yet another well known hotel that has just completed extensive renovations of all its standard rooms, all of which now take on a more “scandinavian” style. Furthermore, The Grand Hotel Reykjavik with its 100 rooms is planning to add another 220 rooms in time for the 2006 season.
Yet another hotel project is planned at a beautiful downtown business complex with the name of Hotel 1919 expected to open in May 2005.
And we are certainly not through yet as there is another centrally located hotel with 87 rooms is also opening up in May 2005. This time at a unique location in the heart of Reykjavik with the name of Centrum Hotel Reykjavik.

Last but certainly not least, there are now plans (as yet to be confirmed) to build a large conference centre and deluxe 5 star hotel in the centre of Reykjavik near the old harbour.

It is not only the hotels that are expanding their services however. Icelandair, the leading local airline, is adding new gateways to an already extensive network. San Francisco is the latest example and will be the 6th gateway of the scheduled flights between Iceland and the USA beginning in April 2005.
This will result in the connection of a large number of major cities in Europe with the USA’s west coast through Iceland!
