From Petra to Wadi Rum...

September 2008

From Petra - one of The Seven Wonders of The World, Home of the Nabateans
To Wadi Rum - the moon like desert home of E.T. Lawrence of Arabia

King Aretas IV Camp in Petra

Petra is a unique place by its self to visit, but to camp in the surroundings between the rocky mountains is something else.  The only way to live this unique experience is in the King Aritas Luxury Camp in Jordan, located 7km from the main site entrance of Petra.

In the late afternoon, early evening, around sunset arrival at Petra to check at the Luxury King Aretas Camp.

Upon arrival at the Luxury Camp in Jordan a check is organized via a special desk.  Tents will be arranged and ready to use in alphabetical order. As a welcome during check in, guests are invited for a non alcoholic drink, while their luggage is dispatched to their tents.
Once in the tent the visitors can enjoy a rest on the low couches in the lounge area of the Bedouin tent, which provides very comfortable low seating.  Waiters are at disposal to serve any drink, a local water pipe or snacks as in any five star hotel lobby but with on top a great view of the natural beauty of the rocky mountains.

Buffet dinner will be served in the main restaurant of the camp which is located partly under a Bedouin tent and partly in a natural cave dug in the rocky hills surrounding the camp.
Overnight at the camp.

Next Morning check-out to visit Petra and continue to the next point in the program: a private Camp inside the desert under real Bedouin tents.

Wadi Rum

Wadi Rum is a unique desert that is located in the south of Jordan 1:45min drive South of Petra and a 45min drive from the city of Aqaba located on the Red Sea.
Each moment of the day has its beauty and the rocks and sand color differently depending on the angle of the Sun.

The Ideal trip to Wadi Rum will be as follows:
Upon arrival to Wadi Rum the visitors are taken for a ride by local Bedouins with open Jeeps inside the desert with a couple of stops to enjoy and admire the natural landscape ending at sunset with a drink.  Not just a drink, but on top of a rocky mountain overseeing the desert a local alcoholic beverage is served while enjoying the “sound of silence”, so particular to the desert.

After the sunset, the guests will get in the jeeps & start to drive towards the private camp site; set up especially for our guests inside Wadi Rum about 15 minutes drive away from the sunset spot.
Upon arrival at the camp, the jeeps will stop 50 meters before where the guests can only see a candle lit path in the darkness.
The guests will get down from the Jeeps and start walking towards the lit path where as they reach the beginning of it, blasting music from the film Laurence of Arabia will start playing accompanied with lighting up a big bon fire and the lights to reveal the private Bedouin set up made for the guests and waiters dressed in local costume will offer a welcome drink and show the guests to their individual rooms (tents).  The tents are made out of black cloth and each tent is separated in 3 or 4 rooms.

A private buffet dinner will be served to the guests with one of the main dishes a lamb cooked under the ground taken out to be served in front of the guests. Seating for dinner will be under a Bedouin tent with low comfortable mattresses and tables, set up with cutlery as if in a restaurant. During dinner back ground local music is played.
After dinner an exciting moment of belly dancing is realized for about 30 minutes.
Overnight at camp.

Next morning, breakfast at Camp
After breakfast, 70 camels will appear from behind the sand dunes with their Bedouin owners singing there Bedouin songs and take the guests for an approximately 45 minute camel ride out side of Wadi Rum to reach the coach.
