Mazurkas Travel – DMC Poland
Warsaw – Ideal Place for Congresses or General Assemblies

May 2003

Warsaw – the capital of Poland – symbolized by a mermaid who foretold its founding, has long been a busy metropolis as European as Paris, Vienna or Rome.
During World War II the city was almost completely destroyed and then rebuilt from ruins and memories within 10 heroic years.
Full of museums, art galleries, cinemas and theaters, also rich in luxury accommodation and gourmet restaurants worthy of a great European capital, Warsaw represents an attractive, easily accessible and good-value destination for incentive/congress travel.
Poland officially entered the European Union during the Athens EU summit. It gives to the city an obligation to be as attractive a destination as other EU capitals. Now the city is ready to host even the biggest events.

Mazurkas Travel organizes the 9th European Conference on Clinical Aspects and Treatment of HIV Injection, which will be held from October 26th till October 29th 2003. At the moment the official number of participants reached 3,000.

The Warsaw International Expocenter – EXPO XXI – is one of the most modern and definitely the biggest conference venue in the Polish capital that can easily accommodate international congresses, conferences and seminars with the biggest exhibition space of 9,000 square meters and a height of pavilions up to 8 meters.
The center is very conveniently located – approximately 2 kilometers from the heart of the city – and is equipped with the latest IT and telecommunication systems.
The other advantage of this place is its flexible space arrangement.
Maximum conference capacity is even up to 4,300 people!

A Gala dinner for such a big event is definitely not a piece of cake. But Warsaw gives such an opportunity as well. The Gala – under the name “Four Sides of Europe” – will take place in the Palace of Culture and Science in the very center of the city, which was a gift from the Soviet Union and Joseph Stalin personally to Poland’s capital. The interior of the building, full of marbles and crystals, is a real pearl of “soviet style social realism”. With its outstanding scale, it brings a unique „palace” ambience to the events organized here.

When I write this text another event – organized by Mazurkas Travel – for almost 1,000 people takes place in Warsaw, this time for delegates from France.
The conference venue is the National Theater, which is an ideal place for such a meeting because of two reasons.
First of all, this monumental complex is probably the most prestigious place of its kind in Warsaw with its giant facade and very richly decorated interior. The second reason is the multiplicity of adjacent rooms to the main auditorium, which could be used for other sessions, receptions etc. The Byzantine luxury of the interiors forms without any doubt a strong advantage in comparison with other similar locations in the city. The theater was built in 1833 and its maximum conference capacity is 1,800 people.
The Gala evening venue is the Main Hall of the Warsaw Technical University.
This unique building was constructed in 1900. An internal patio under the glassed roof with three floors of Eclectic balconies gives a unique impression for the guests, especially when appropriately illuminated. This place was a venue for many important episodes in the Polish history of the second half of the 20th century. A short performance of the Representative Orchestra of the Polish Army, using historical costumes from the Napoleonic period, is a good beginning of the event. The cocktail at the first floor of balconies is followed by the dinner itself at the ground floor. During dinner a dancing music band performs for the guest till late night.

Above described are only two examples of large events in Warsaw. Consequently, year-by-year, an incentive infrastructure becomes bigger and bigger. This year two new five star hotels open their doors to the guests: Intercontinental and Westin. Some new top class restaurants also get into the business…

Warsaw, a city worth seeing and fit for organizing large events?
Yes – definitely yes.
