Experience the Magical Russian Winter!

September 2004

Russian winter 2004/2005

Experiencing the Russian winter is like a fairytale. It is the time for troika horse riding, snowball competitions, skiing and skating. The temperature can drop till – 25°C and to rise up to 0°C. The average temperature is about – 10°C. People have to wear scarves, sweaters, gloves, warm socks and hats with earflaps or fur hats. The climate by itself is an emotional experience. Who isn’t dreaming of a “White Saint Petersburg”? All the palaces and parks have a fantastic look at that time of winter. The magic will be complete if you find yourself in the atmosphere of 19th century Russia, enjoying a winter ball in one of the famous palaces and riding late at night in a carriage across the Nevskij Prospect.

Day 01: Welcome to Saint Petersburg
Upon arrival meeting and assistance by the guide. The usual transfer lasts about 30 minutes and depends very much on the traffic. During the transfer the guide will give the general information on Russia and St. Petersburg history. Welcome dinner will be served at hotel. Night stay at the hotel.

Day 02: “St. Petersburg – caught in the ice”
During the day a city tour that will last about 2,5 hours with opportunities to see the most beautiful architectural sites of the city: the Palace Square, the St. Isaac Square, the Senate Square and the main avenue of the city - the Nevskij Prospect. During the visit to the Peter & Paul fortress- “Welcome vodka ceremony greeting by Peter the Great” - guests will be greeted by Peter the Great who toasts on the guest’s health and invites them to drink a genuine vodka. We will visit the Hermitage, one of the oldest and largest museums in the world. The museum is located in 5 historical buildings of St. Petersburg, including the Winter Palace -the former residence of Russian tsars-. The collections of the Hermitage consist of over 3 million items from prehistoric to modern times. Magnificent works of art embracing prehistoric culture, Egyptian art, the art of Antiquity, Scythian gold, and great collections of European paintings and sculptures, are displayed in the 400 halls of the museum. Dinner and night stay at the hotel.

Day 03: Russian Winter in the country side
Winter is a wonderful season for adults as well as for children. All enjoy spending time outside. In the Russian villages people always had plenty of ideas on how spending the winter gaily and active. We suggest our guests to enjoy the Russian winter in the countryside: \"Feel Yourself Russian!\" is one of the team building activities ideally held in these conditions of a real Russian Winter. On the way, different tasks will be given to the guests; the first is to make a snowman. Usually Russians make snowmen, making a nose of a plain carrot. The participants can try to make their own sculpture and afterwards –as a part of team building touch - be awarded with a bottle of Vodka. Another much loved winter activity is skiing / skating and is at reach for everybody from professional to beginner. This could be an unequalled joy to go sporting in the real winter with snow & snowstorms.
Russian winter has always been associated with famous Russian Troikas. In the park of Pavlovsk - which is quite a picturesque English regular park with beautiful hills, fields & natural plateaus, the guests are invited to horse riding in slays. Russian \"Sanki\" (Sledges) is one of the most popular winter activities. Sledges are of a special small plate type and are used to get down from fun hills. For the guests, we will organize a competition between various teams. A tea/vodka break during the sledge riding allows discovering the finest Russian cookies (pastries, biscuits etc.). It will be a real pleasure to taste a good quality tea made in a Russian Samovar (ancient tea-making vessel used in Russia during the last century & now preserved as a national heritage, real wooden chips & cones are used to heat samovar). Vodka stop will bring fun to everybody. The guests will have vodka with Russian snacks right in the middle of the winter park. At the end of competitions - Winter gifts – stylish & useful. Europeans are not used to such a cold weather therefore we could provide the group with Artificial / Mutton military Fur hats and with so called \"Valenki \" - lane boots, very warm.
Dinner at a local restaurant with Russian cuisine and on top an animation by Snow-Maidens and Father Frost.
