Caviar and Vodka testing in the Captain’s room

May 2006

Caviar testing gives a unique opportunity to sample many kinds of caviar: black, gray, yellow, blue, white and red, as well learn a lot about caviar and its importance to good health.
Such a special event could be arranged in a restaurant, but we recommend a very unusual place – the war-ship cruiser Aurora. The Aurora play a unique role in Russian history – it gave the signal that started the Russian revolution.

After visiting a museum to the accompaniment of a naval choir, guests are invited by Aurora’s captain into the captain/s room, where the caviar testing is held. A professional chief explains how to serve each kind of caviar, how they differ in taste, and much more. A caviar testing makes you an expert in Russian vodka as well because each kind of caviar is served with a different brand and flavor of vodka.

Russian caviar or fish eggs?
In Russia there are 27 kinds of caviar and all types of “fish eggs” that are called cavier by local people, while in the world beyond Russia, most are aware of only three kinds. And all of those three kinds are black caviar: beluga, osetr and sevruga. That is why you find many kinds of caviar served at Russian tables: black, grey, yellow, red, white, yellow.

Why caviar is so healthful?
Caviar is full of energy. It is highly appreciated for its components.
First, there is a lot of fiber in caviar – it\'s about 30 % proteins which are almost completely absorbed by the organism (rare for fibers of animal origin).
Secondly, caviar contains a great deal of useful amino acids, minerals, vitamins A, C, PP, B2, B6, and D, a folic acid. For this reason caviar is recommended for children, pregnant women, and people with health problems, especially after surgery, and those with anemia. For hundreds of years this pearl of the sea has been known and appreciated for its nutritional value. It was not considered a delicacy but rather a medicine.

Why is Beluga the most expensive kind of caviar?
Beluga fish are extremely rare and are considered a \"living fossil.\" They can measure 20 feet or more, reach up to 2,200 pounds in weight, and can live a hundred years. It requires 20 years to reach adulthood and begin producing eggs…
