Incentive tourism: Cruise to the North Pole

On September 19th, the last ofthree annual icebreaker cruises to the North Pole returned port.  The cruise to the North Pole is both educational and entertaining. Not only professional guides attend to tourists’ needs – specially-invited scientists are also along to explain the  Arctic environment and the history of the North Pole discovery. The tourists disembark at ice floes and arctic islands, such as Franz Joseph Land with its mysterious round spheroid stones, crowded rookery and unexpectedly green, almost Scottish hills. They fly a helicopter over the stunningly beautiful body of water and watch northern fauna in its natural habitat – polar bears, walruses and whales.

The culmination of the cruise is the North Pole – the top of the world. Every guest is sure to hear his country’s national anthem at this legendary spot. The tourist holding hands reel around the North Pole making a symbolic journey around the world. Following is the northernmost barbeque, the northernmost dance and bathing in the northernmost ice-hole for the brave!

This year more than 500 tourists from Japan, China, Taiwan, Hong-Kong, India, Eastern and Western Europe were welcomed at the North Pole.

In less than a year’s time the North Pole will host new travelers. We are happy to announce the dates of the first cruise in 2012 - July 20th. Approximately 50% of tickets are already sold.

If you decide soon, your guests can be a part of the first cruise of 2012.

Leisure tourism: Exploring the northern capital with the “Guest Card”

It is now much easier for leisure tourists to explore St. Petersburg.

The “Guest Card” is indeed an electronic card. Its holder is entitled to a package of privileges. A cardholder may visit 25 city’s museums free of charge. At the State Hermitage, he will be met by a guide, taken into the museum without standing in line and given a thorough tour around the exposition.

One of this season’s innovations is that now tourists have more flexibility. The card is now good for two to seven days and the price complies. Among other things, a kids’ card for our young travelers is to be introduced soon. It will provide the same privileges for kids from 7 to 17 years of age as it does for the adults, but at a 40-50% discount.

Another new convenient feature of the Guest Card is its integration with electronic public transport tickets. The new version of the card will include several metro, bus or tram rides. The system is being constantly upgraded an soon the tourists will be able to top-up their transport limit at special terminals and cash registers on the underground stations.

The Guest Card can be purchased online, at the CityTouristInformationCenteroffices, at the project’s partners (hotels, restaurants, etc.) and even in “Taxi 068”.
