5 days in Lucerne, an open-minded small town in the heart of Europe ?

November 2002

Lucerne, the city in the very center of Switzerland, has decisive advantages: the well-preserved old town, the relaxed pedestrian zones, the unrivalled aspect of the lake and the surrounding mountains, which enable diverse experiences and event offerings ?

Day 1
Arrival at Zurich Airport. Meet & Greet. We travel to Lucerne by private motor coach, a one-hour scenic ride alongside lakes nestled among mountains and with the Alps on the horizon. Lucerne is a lakeside resort in the very heart of Switzerland. It?s an intriguing blend of history (one of the original 4 cantons of the Swiss Confederation) with its symbolic wooden bridge in the old town, home to writers and composers including Wagner & Tolstoy, and a notable modern Concert Hall designed by French architect Jean Nouvel and setting for the Lucerne International Music Festival.

Accommodations at the 5-star Palace Hotel, facing the Lake of the Four Cantons.
Time for a nap. A light buffet lunch followed by an afternoon stroll through the Old Town. Evening cocktail reception and welcome dinner at the hotel.

Day 2

Full buffet breakfast. Half-day tour to Mt. Pilatus (7,000 ft), the striking mountain southwest of the town, with wonderful panoramic views over the Lake of the Four Cantons and the Bernese Alps on the horizon. We travel by motor coach to Kriens and then take a cable car to the top.
Time for coffee or lunch at the Kulm Hotel, with possible extension to a full-day excursion. Return by cogwheel railway (open from Mid-May to November) to Alpnachstad and from there on by lake steamer to Lucerne.
Alternatively, we could take the cogwheel railway from Arth to Mt. Rigi Kulm (5,900 ft) returning by Europe?s oldest cogwheel railway to Vitznau and then by boat to Lucerne. Afternoon free for shopping or for a visit to the Picasso or Transport museum.

Evening: Swiss Folklore dinner and show at the Stadtkeller.

Day 3

Buffet breakfast. 4-hour Crossbow Land excursion. We drive along the northern shores of Lake Lucerne, passing K
