Istanbul, the world’s best city!

June 2014

Istanbul has topped the “Top 25 Destinations" list on TripAdvisor, the world's biggest travel website. Rome, London, Beijing, Prague, Marrakech, and Paris followed Istanbul on the list, which is based on user comments and ratings. The list ranks New York 12th, Barcelona 15th, Dubai 17th, Sydney 21st and San Francisco 24th. Updated for a sixth time this year, it takes into account travel opinions published within the space of a year on touristic places, hotels, and restaurants. Istanbul was 12th on the TripAdvisor's list in 2013 but It has pulled off an impressive feat in the sixth edition of TripAdvisor’s Travelers’ Choice Destinations 2014 report, leapfrogging 11 places from last year.

Quick Facts which make Istanbul / Turkey so hot this year ...

- A rich cultural and historical heritage; Turkish culture reflects unparalleled cultural richness and diversity, and remains mostly shaped by its deep roots in Middle East, Anatolia and Balkans, the cradle of many civilizations for at least twelve thousand years. Today, Turkey may be the only country that contains every extreme of Eastern and Western culture. For example, the seven churches of revelation mentioned in the bible are all to be found in Turkey.

- Competitively priced accommodation and top class facilities; Turkey has the most amazing luxury and boutique hotels in the world. You may find the most beautiful hotels at very affordable rates due to intense competition among travel agencies and Turkey’s national currency, the Turkish Lira. Compared to the Euro or Dollar, in terms of buying power, it is weaker. This presents an advantage to travellers who convert their Euros or Dollars to TL and buy in TL.

- Famous Turkish hospitality, all over the town; Turks believe that visitors should be treated as guests sent by God.

- World famous non-stop nightlife;  Turkey is a Mediterranean country with a lively culture of eating, drinking, and entertainment, with nightlife and eating-out possibilities to suit every preference. During the summer months, alfresco dining is the norm, particularly along the coastal areas and along the Bosphorus in Istanbul.

- The dividing line between the Orient and the Occident; The meeting point of the three world’s great civilizations, Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman. A fusion of vibrant Mediterranean cultures and the enchantment of the East, Turkey offers a wonderful combination of cosmopolitan international cities with rustic simplicity of village life.

- One of the best cuisines of the World; It is said that three major kinds of cuisine exist in the world; Turkish, Chinese, and French. Fully justifying its reputation, Turkish Cuisine is always a pleasant surprise for the visitor.

- Temperate climate;  It is said that all of the four seasons exist in Turkey. The sea stretching on three sides of the country, the location of the mountains and the variety of geographical formations have led to this diversity. Therefore the unique Mediterranean climate and beautiful nature of Turkey allows almost six months of summertime in the southern parts.

- Shopping; Istanbul is the city for shopping. The Grand Bazaar has been serving shoppers since the mid-fifteenth century with more than 3000 stalls to browse. If you like to bargain, head to the Old Town bazaars including the Spice Bazaar and Arasta Bazaar and pick up traditional wares such as rugs, handicrafts and exotic spices. If mainstream is more your thing, visit one of the many modern shopping centres spread all over the city. Beyoglu has all your contemporary fashion, music and books.
