The Year we left behind...

January 2008

The Year we left behind

Turkey’s Tourism Infrastructure took a giant leap forward this year with so many deluxe and boutique properties opening around the country and more developments in the Meeting Arena are on the way. In taking a quick glance at 2007 we wish all our colleagues a Very, Merry and Successful 2008.

On the Rise

The number of foreign tourists visiting Turkey was up 25.6 percent in October 2007 over October 2006. This year has also been very successful for our National carrier, Turkish Airlines who is now a member of the Star Alliance Team. With a 4 Star World Airline ranking in hand, THY carried 15 million passengers.

Turkey also excelled in the Arts & Cultural fields. Orhan Pamuk received the Nobel Prize for literature and Fatih Akın brought home a Golden Palm from the Film Festival of Cannes for his movie “Edge of Heaven”.

The city of contrasts “Istanbul” has earned the title of European Capitol of Culture for the year 2010 and Antalya is on its way to become Europeans choice for Golfing in the Mediterranean with 9 World class Golf Courses in the Bellek region and many more under construction aiming for a total of 20 courses by the end of 2008.

As one of the major cruise ship ports in the Mediterranean, Cruise travel has seen an increase of 20% welcoming mega ships such as Emerald Princess and MSC Orchestra each with a 3.000 passenger capacity.
