Fine dining in Slovenia: a very starry culinary delight
Despite its size, Slovenia has made a big impact on the culinary world. This is best reflected by the latest and recent awarding of multiple stars by the prestigious MICHELIN Guide to numerous restaurants that showcase the country’s rich gastronomic heritage.
Restaurant Hiša Franko has achieved three stars, becoming the 140th restaurant worldwide to be awarded the MICHELIN Guide’s highest accolade, and the first “restaurant worth a special journey” in Slovenia, according to the guide, sitting alongside its MICHELIN Green Star award. (It is also listed in the most recent World 50 Best Restaurants list.)
Restaurant Milka, located in Kranjska Gora, at the Julian Alpine tripoint with Slovenia, Austria and Italy was rewarded for its “remarkable progress” with its modern, mountain cuisine with its second star, and seven more restaurants across Slovenia held their one-star level: COB, Dam Restavracija, Gostilna pri Lojzetu, Grič, Hiša Denk, Hiša Linhart, Restavracija Strelec.
While we are proud of these starred restaurants of Slovenia, and not forgetting the seven that hold the Michelin Green Star, we believe that much of our restaurant world is perfect for you and your groups.
From innovative interpretations of traditional dishes to avant-garde creations that push the boundaries of flavour, Slovenian cuisine is a celebration of local ingredients and culinary craftsmanship. Indulge in a gastronomic journey that tantalizes the taste buds and leaves a lasting impression.
Not new, just classic
Our other great area for any active and fun-seeking incentive groups is in and around Piran, the charming coastal town where the Adriatic Sea meets the Istrian peninsula. Piran’s narrow peninsula, hemmed in by the Gulf of Trieste, exudes Venetian influence from its half-millennium of rule.
Embark on a scenic cycling tour along the Three Border Trail, which winds its way through picturesque landscapes and offers panoramic views of the sea. Take in the historic charm of town, stroll through charming alleyways, discover niche churches, and explore the medieval town walls. Or take your group on nature escapes: dipping toes in the Adriatic or walking the olive groves of Fiesa, exploring nearby Strunjan Nature Reserve and the Soline Strunjan salt pans.
After working up an appetite, indulge in a culinary journey through Piran’s vibrant food scene, where you can sample Istrian fare and savour the flavors of local cuisine and sample fresh seafood delicacies.
Just 1.5 hours from Ljubljana, Piran is an ideal addition to any Slovenia incentive itinerary.
