The Baltic Musical Seasons in Latvia

The Baltic Musical Seasons is a project designed to become one of the core events in the field of symphonic music, ballet and opera in all of Europe.  The plans of the Foundation include organizing concerts of stars of global stage in Latvia, to promote the country’s image as a centre of culture and to popularize classical art.

To preserve and to enhance the cultural traditions of Latvia, a country renowned for its outstanding figures of the classical scene – this we see as our goal and mission. At different times, Latvia has been home for such ballet stars as Mikhail Baryshnikov and Maris Rudolfs Liepa, such composers as Richard Wagner and Alfreds Kalninš. As well as internationally renowned opera divas as Elina Garanca and Inese Galante and the conductors whose names remain in the golden pool of global culture (Mariss Jansons and Andris Nelsons).

We are convinced that contemporary Latvia has the potential to become a new point of attraction for connoisseurs of classical musical art.

The concert program of Baltic Musical Seasons is unique and unmatched in the Baltic States in terms of its scale and significance. Starting in 2017, both Jurmala and Riga will be full of the sounds of timeless classical music performed by prominent modern musicians, with ballet, and the voices of people whose significance for global culture cannot be overemphasised.  Their performances will be a bright addition to the ancient beauty of Riga, to the grey-and-blue colours of the Baltic Sea and to the healthy air of Jurmala.

Tallinn City Hall – dreams will come true in October 2017

Put the virtual glasses on and fasten your seatbelts, because the changes that will take place in Tallinn in the coming years will be impressive...
A grand architectural monument in the city, built in 1980, Tallinn City Hall will reopen its doors in 2020, after thorough reconstruction, as the most modern conference center in Northern Europe and the best concert venue in Estonia.

The present ice rink will be demolished and a new version with the same dimensions will be built in its place, along with seven conference rooms of different sizes, a black box of 500 square metres and a cinema of the same size. A removable space glass structure, which can be used for special dinners and other events, will be built on the roof of the ice rink.

While people in the tourist business will be particularly pleased about the creation of a new international collaborative working environment, our citizens as well as visitors to the city will probably be more excited about the concert hall with 3,500 seats, designed primarily for performances of classical music. The New City Hall will also become the permanent home of the renowned Estonian National Symphony Orchestra.

The iconic outer shape of the building will not change and people can still walk across the building to the sea. The harbor will also stay and there will be new shops and cafés. The seaside location of City Hall makes the new conference and concert center even more unique.
