The Bosphorus has regained its colour with the arrival of spring

The Judas tree (named in Turkish as Erguvan) has started to come back to life in Istanbul. It is an indefinable experience to see the Bosphorus shore adorned by the blossom of the Judas tree.

The Judas tree represents stability, power and the colour of empire. Traditionally only the royals wear the colour of the Judas tree, because this colour is rare and hard to produce naturally. The story says that after one of Jesus Christ’s apostles betrayed him, he hung himself on the tree that then took the name: Judas.
