Many are the hotels that have recently opened their doors or that will be inaugurated in the coming months or whose management has been entrusted to prestigious international firms. In this article we will summarize the most significant ones.
Cuba currently has 69,041 rooms, 63% of which are in 4 and 5 star classed hotels. There is a broad investment plan until the year 2030 that in the short term foresees 4,825 new rooms in 2018 and 5,249 in 2019.
All these new or renovated hotels expand the facilities in terms of services to ensure success in the organization of all types of events, groups and incentive trips.
The country has 21 foreign companies managing a total of 45,333 rooms, including Melia Hotels, Iberostar and Blue Diamonds; for the number of rooms they manage, among the hotel chains that have joined more recently in the management of hotels on the island are Kempinski, Banyan Tree, Sercotel, Elite Club Vacance, MGM Muthu, the group Posadas with its brand Fiesta Americana and Louvre Hotels with its Golden Tulip brand.
In June last year, the Gran Hotel Manzana Kempinski was inaugurated in a central location in Havana, a five-star luxury hotel that was recently awarded the Versailles Grand Prize for Architecture.
Another 3 hotels are still under construction in Havana, The Grand Iberostar Packard, scheduled to open in the summer, stands on the side of Prado Street, a privileged location, a few blocks from the Capitol Building, the Gran Teatro de La Habana and the Bar/Restaurant El Floridita. It will contemplate 321 rooms and will be distinguished by the transparency of its facades.
The second is The Hotel Prado y Malecon, still under construction process for 2019, which stands proudly in front of the entrance to Havana Bay, like a ship about to set sail, which will boast one of the most beautiful panoramic views of the city and that will be one of the best luxury hotels in the country. The hotel will be managed by the French chain Accor through its Sofitel brand.
Following the Paseo del Prado, in the junction with Colon Street, The Regis Hotel is being built, a boutique hotel that will have 61 rooms which will give a vision of modernity to the building that already existed, capitalizing on the old style of construction.
In the Keys to the north of Villa Clara, specifically in Cayo Las Brujas, The Sercotel Experience Cayo Santa Maria was inaugurated very recently and served as the venue for the International Tourism Fair, FITCUBA 2018. It is a 5 star paradise on the front line of beach where the beauty of nature and the immensity of the sea converge. It has 660 rooms.
For its part, the Banyan Tree Hotel Chain operates The Dhawa Cayo Santa Maria Hotel, which recently won the Platinum EcoLider Award, the first hotel of the chain in the Americas that offers spacious and modern rooms and a wide range of themed restaurants. Soon it will open another hotel of the chain under the brand Angsana, a hotel for the adult segment and that will have 252 rooms.
Melia Hotels chain will soon inaugurate The Hotel Paradisus Los Cayos, which will have a total of 802 rooms arranged in three areas (Royal Service, The Reserve and Standard) and will have 34 pools, 12 restaurants and 14 bars. This hotel will distinguish because, despite of having only 3 levels, it will have 11 elevators and will have exclusive services in its facilities.
Melia will also open, in the beach resort of Varadero, The International Hotel, a 5 stars plus, that will feature 946 rooms arranged in two large buildings, and will maintain the architectural concepts of the 50s of the 20th century when this hotel was originally built.
The chain has announced other portfolio additions as it starts to operate under its brand other 5* facilities that are located in the cities of Cienfuegos (La Union, Jagua and San Carlos) and in Camagüey (Hotel Colon and Gran Hotel). Together with these 5 hotels Melia will open, once adaptions are completed, The Hotel Innside Camaguey and for the year 2020 it plans to add three hotels in the heritage city of Trinidad: The Melia Trinidad, The Melia Punta Ancon and will convert the current hotel Ancon into The Sol House Ancon.
