It's hard not to get excited by London. It has everything you'd ever want, and then some...
London’s popularity is proven year after year by the ever growing number of visitors. Last year this number broke 19 million, almost 2 million more than Paris in 2016.
Over 20% of those numbers are believed to be on business trips (That’s a lot of business). But this comes as no surprise, because London accommodates every kind of traveller, from students to the high-flying banker.
London is the financial capital of the world, resulting in over 500 banks in the City. Most of them being foreign. There are more Japanese banks here than in Tokyo and more American banks than Manhattan.
Almost $3 trillion in foreign transactions are made in the City of London each day, and all because it’s at the centre of the world.
Yes really. Geographically London (GMT) is right in the middle of the financial world. You can trade with the east in the morning and with the west in the afternoon.
That’s all the major markets in one day. It all sounds so simple.
But London is not all about business. It’s arguably the most diverse and multicultural city in the world. It is believed that over 300 languages are spoken in London. English being the most popular followed by Bengali, Gujarati, Punjabi, Cantonese, Mandarin and many, many more.
This is also reflected by the vast cuisine choices on offer.
Pretty much any ethnic cuisine you can think of is available in London. But you may be pleasantly surprised by the popularity of traditional British dishes like Fish & Chips, Pie & Mash, Roast Beef Diner, Shepherd’s Pie, Bread-and-Butter Pudding, Tea & Scones etc. Many top restaurants offer fantastic variations of these dishes that would please the most discerning palates.
It’s hard to talk about culture without mentioning museums and galleries, and London has no shortage of those either. The V&A, British Museum, Tate Modern, National Maritime Museum, National History Museum, The National Gallery, Design Museum, Science Museum, London Transport Museum…. The list goes on and on.
So much to see and do.
London attracts a huge amount of sports fans and fanatics. None more popular than the football (Soccer) fan. With some of the world's richest football clubs based in London it comes as no surprise. Several Premier League matches are played during some weeks of the season and there are two London clubs playing in the UEFA Champions League this season with Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) are flying the London flag.
Athletics is also a big draw in London. Who could forget the incredible Olympics in “London 2012”? An amazing World Championships this year “London 2017”. It was a huge event, not just because it was the farewell games for the iconic Usain bolt, but many of the international athletes will tell you that it feels like a home games as many will have fans directly from or as a descendant of their country. This is a clear reflection of this multicultural city. It’s a home away from home for many people.
With a great mix of old and modern architecture, London will please sightseers of all walks. There are many ways to experience the skyline & the unique sights that London has to offer.
The London Eye offers the highest public viewing point in the city.
At a height of 135 metres you’re unlikely to have any obstructions.
There are fantastic tours of the city by vintage bus.
There’s even a vintage Tea Bus Tour where you can relax & enjoy the sights like a classic Londoner, drinking tea and scoffing cakes and scones.
How about an Italian Job style tour? You travel in an original, restored classic Mini Cooper with your own personal getaway driver!
Listen as your expert guide fills you in on the sights and sounds of London’s attractions as beats from the Beatles, Rolling Stones and The Who provide the soundtrack.
