Commercial international flights to Costa Rica land either at the San Jose Airport (SJO), also called Juan Santamaria Airport, 17 km (11 miles) northwest of the city, or at the Liberia Airport (LIR), called Daniel Oduber Airport, in the Guanacaste province.
Programs starting or ending in San Jose, going to the mid Pacific area or making a roundtrip of the country should use the San Jose Airport. Those programs taking place in the province of Guanacaste on the north Pacific coast should use the Liberia Airport.
Costa Rica is six hours behind GMT (Greenwich Mean Time), which makes Costa Rican time equivalent to Central Standard Time in North America. The country does not observe daylight saving time.
Costa Rica has the advantage of a perfect tropical climate. The average temperature is 70ºF (21ºC) in the highlands and from the high 70’s to the 90’sºF (21ºC to 32ºC) in the lowlands. Conditions are moderate all year round. The green season lasts from May to November, and the dry season lasts from December to April. However, even during the green season, the mornings are likely to be bright and sunny. Temperatures vary little between seasons; the main influence on temperature is altitude.
