Discover the beauty of Sicily
The White Lotus Path
The black comedy-drama TV show The White Lotus was selected as the best show of 2022 by Variety. The first season took place in Hawaii; the second great season of HBO’s show The White Lotus took place in the beautiful Sicily – mostly in the eastern part of the island.
Created by Mike White, is about a fictional White Lotus resort chain where wealthy guests —and employees— experience dark, exciting, and personal situations during their stay.
Let’s discover together the wonders that this island can offer to our guests…
San Domenico Palace *****
A 14th-century convent overlooking Mount Etna and the Ionian Sea, a grand hotel from 1896, recently reopened as an Four Seasons property.
Four Seasons San Domenico Palace basks in its glorious location, peacefully overlooking all of eastern Sicily, yet just steps away from Taormina’s most enchanting streets. Filming was wrapped up by summer 2022 so thankfully you won’t bump into any murderous White Lotus characters.
102 rooms located in two different wings
Location: Taormina, town centre area
Airport access: Catania Fontanarossa Airport (CTA) – ca. 1 hour ride to hotel
Taormina
The main characters arrive in Taormina, a hilltop town on the east coast of the island, near Mount Etna —which The White Lotus guests can see from their rooms—, that has beautifully preserved medieval streets. This is one of the most popular towns in Italy for its fascinating architecture and history.
Isola Bella is a tiny and romantic island below Taormina connected to the mainland by a narrow path… depending on the tide. This small island right next to Taormina became a natural museum and travelers can visit it and admire its beauty, vegetation, unique scenery, and beaches. It’s also popular to rent jet skis, just like Cameron and Ethan did in The White Lotus.
The Greek Theater
One of Taormina’s main attractions, visited by the series characters, it is the second largest amphitheatre in Sicily (the largest one is in Syracuse), built by Greeks and Romans in the third century B.C. to fit 10,000 people.
Mount Etna
This natural area offers travelers great hikes near the active volcano and a wine-tasting experiences in Passopisciaro just like a few of the characters did in the series.
There are a lot of vineyards and a lot of wines to taste. Etna knows it and several wine makers and other entrepreneurs have joined forces for Strada dei Vini Etnea, a wine road that is also part of the Ferrovia Circumetnea, a charming red and white train that runs along the base of the northern slope.
For the more adventurous, Etna is outdoor activity unparalleled- hiking, biking, skiing and other- where the panorama stretches to the Straits of Messina. Guided and volcano excursions can be arranged in off-roading vehicles and trekking excursions where you’ll step into a landscape of fumaroles and craters.
“The Godfather” experience
The 18th-century estate where Michael Corleone takes refuge in The Godfather makes a cameo in an episode of The White Lotus: Di Grasso patriarch Bert organizes a tour of the iconic movie’s filming locations, an outing that ends with lunch in the courtyard. In real-life the Castello degli Schiavi is a private home, though its owner will personally lead private tours. This may be the perfect setting for a memorable Sicilian gala dinner.
