What’s New, Unique and Perfect in Austria

Our exquisite new hotel in Vienna

The Imperial Riding School

If you’re looking for an exquisite new hotel for your next group in Vienna, let us suggest to you the latest addition to the ever-expanding brand of Marriott International, the Imperial Riding School, Autograph Collection. The building – situated only a 5-minute walk from Belvedere Palace – was originally established by Emperor Franz Joseph I in the 19th century as a military equestrian school (obviously that’s where the hotel’s name comes from)! Over the years, it constantly changed function to serve the city, at one point becoming Vienna’s largest cinema, and later a garage for electric post office vehicles after WWII.

Today, with a contemporary addition adjoining the grand facade, it is a place for locals and visitors alike to unwind, recharge and connect with the many characters of Vienna, past and present. It has re-opened its doors this April as a grand, 342-bedroom 4-star hotel that combines the original majestic facade with a contemporary addition. Your group staying there will be treated to the grandeur of regal Austria. Throughout your stay, you’ll discover nods to varied heritage, from the stable-inspired floors to the plethora of apple delights, plucked from the orchard that is in the same spot as the apple trees that Emperor Franz Joseph I famously loved. Inside, you may taste reimagined Austrian classics at Elstar restaurant, or enjoy the tranquillity of one of the city’s largest private gardens, which is also home to The Old Lady, one of Vienna’s oldest surviving trees. This hotel can also offer you a total of 1211 square meters of meeting space including 13 event rooms including 6 breakout rooms. The largest event room’s maximum capacity in theatre-style seating stands at a respectable 432 persons.

Considering the house’s rich history and its current opulence, it easily blends into the portfolio of imperial Vienna’s prestigious hotels. Whether your visit is for culture or business, here you’ll find the perfect balance of elegance and eccentricity.

A unique experience on Lake Wörthersee

Lake Wörth (or Wörthersee) is located in the southern Austrian state of Carinthia, a region that is well known amongst tourists from around the world for its stunningly beautiful scenery, surrounded by hills, prodigious forests, scenic roads and many options for outdoor activities. The lake itself – the biggest in Carinthia – is a popular destination for all kinds of groups. Worthwhile choices nearby include charming castles, cozy restaurants with breathtaking views over the lake and various options for water sport activities.

Speaking of water related programs, there is one boat tour that definitely fits the unique experience criteria and can be a highlight of a small, VIP group’s itinerary. It is a tour on Wörthersee on board the replica of the world’s first air-cushion boat (Hovercraft). The original boat was built in 1915 by an Austrian gentleman named Dagobert Müller von Thomamühl, had an impressive top speed of over 32 knots ( 59 km/h) and was even armed with torpedoes and machineguns. Luckily though, it never saw really combat. Today, the replica – called Leadership- has no intention of doing military service: it was solely built for entertainment purposes. Being a part of history, the tour includes a presentation of the boat including the story behind it along with a speed ride and manoeuvering, fuelled by the 16 cylinders, invigorating vibrations and sound it produces, making the whole experience truly unforgettable. Being a relatively small boat, it does have a limitation of maximum capacity for 10 persons, making it suitable for small (VIP) groups.

The middle of Lake Wörth offers the best view over the hills embracing it, over all the 5-star properties surrounding it and over the endless forests of Carinthia. The Leadership is a great choice to take you there combining, modern power with the design of historic times, being a pledge of allegiance for pioneering spirit, or as its manufacture like to put it, taking you “forward into the past”.
